Cognatic Lineage
Cognatic lineage is a system of tracing descent and inheritance through both the maternal and paternal lines. In this system, individuals are considered to belong to the same lineage as their relatives on both sides of the family. This means that both male and female descendants can inherit property, titles, and status, and can pass them on to their own offspring. Cognatic lineage is often contrasted with patrilineal and matrilineal systems of descent, which only consider one side of the family for inheritance and lineage.
