Capsid
A capsid is the protein shell that surrounds and protects the genetic material of a virus. It is composed of protein subunits called capsomeres that self-assemble to form the capsid structure. The capsid plays a crucial role in protecting the viral genome during transmission between host cells and in facilitating the entry of the virus into host cells. Additionally, the capsid may contain specialized structures, such as tail fibers or spikes, that help the virus attach to and infect specific host cells.
