Brazilian Empire
The Brazilian Empire refers to the period in Brazilian history from 1822 to 1889 when Brazil was ruled by emperors. It began with the declaration of independence from Portugal by Dom Pedro I and ended with the overthrow of Dom Pedro II in a military coup. During this time, Brazil saw economic growth, territorial expansion, and the abolition of the slave trade. The empire was characterized by a centralized government, a constitutional monarchy, and the development of a national identity.
