Blackwaters
Blackwaters refer to bodies of water that have a dark or black appearance due to high levels of organic material, such as decaying plant matter. These bodies of water often have low levels of oxygen and can be found in swamps, bogs, and other wetland areas. The dark coloration of blackwaters is caused by tannins leaching from vegetation into the water, giving it a tea-like hue. These unique aquatic ecosystems provide important habitats for a variety of plant and animal species adapted to the conditions found in blackwater environments.
