Bimetallism
Bimetallism is a monetary system in which the value of a country's currency is based on two metals, typically gold and silver, at a fixed ratio. This system allows for the unrestricted coinage of both metals and for the coins to circulate concurrently as legal tender. Bimetallism was a common practice in the 19th century before countries began to adopt the gold standard as the sole basis for their currency.
