Batak Languages

The Batak languages are a group of closely related Austronesian languages spoken by the Batak people in the northern part of Sumatra, Indonesia. These languages are known for their complex verbal systems and rich oral traditions. The Batak languages are divided into several distinct dialects, including Toba, Mandailing, Simalungun, and Karo. Each of these dialects has its own unique phonological and grammatical features, but they are all mutually intelligible to some degree. The Batak languages are written using the Batak script, which is descended from the ancient Brahmi script.
