Automotive Hand Brakes

Automotive hand brakes, also known as emergency brakes or parking brakes, are a secondary braking system in vehicles that is manually operated by the driver. Typically located either as a lever between the front seats or a pedal on the far left side of the driver's footwell, hand brakes are used to secure a parked vehicle in place by applying pressure to the rear brake pads or shoes. They are designed to engage in case of a primary braking system failure or for parking on inclines to prevent the vehicle from rolling. Hand brakes are commonly found in both manual and automatic transmission vehicles.
