Ancient Roman Housing
Ancient Roman Housing refers to the various types of dwellings and living arrangements used by the inhabitants of the Roman Empire during antiquity. These structures ranged from simple, one-room apartments known as insulae, to more elaborate and spacious homes such as domus. Roman housing was often characterized by its use of brick and concrete construction, central heating systems known as hypocausts, and indoor plumbing. Wealthier Romans also had access to amenities such as courtyards, gardens, and private baths within their homes. The layout and design of Roman housing reflected social hierarchies and cultural values, with different classes of society residing in distinct types of dwellings.
